How to get Free Samples for Beauty Products
Free Stuff? Where do I sign up?!
Here is a list of the latest offers for free samples from some well-known brands. These are coupons for lotions, haircare and cosmetics. Nowadays with the availability and ease of the internet as an advertising medium, there are lots of companies willing to give out free samples and deep discounts, through mail offers, and social networking contests, so take advantage of it. I have been getting free samples for over a year now by knowing where to look for them, and you can do it as well. The best part of pursuing free samples is that you get to try products that you may never have otherwise tried before.

Reward yourself, carefully
Although for most sample sites, all you have to do is fill out a form to get your sample, its not as simple as it seems. It's not exactly a good idea to jump into this kind of thing without taking a few things into consideration, most importantly your own personal identity that you will want to protect. It's not that these offers are scams but that you don't have any idea of what they will do with your information after you submit it, regardless if they have a statement written in a 'privacy policy' that most sites offer.

Companies want your time, your attention and your information. Some companies gather your personal information, like your name, birthdate, phone number and email through surveys and questionnaires that they offer along with their free samples, because your personal data is worth money. In this day and age with identity theft so rampant, I think there are a few things to keep in mind while you are hunting on the internet and filling out forms for free samples. Here are some helpful hints on getting free samples while playing it safe:

It takes time and effort:
It's easy to get samples but some work is involved. To get these samples, visit the sites and follow the directions. You will likely have to leave a name and address so they can send the samples to you. If you are uncomfortable doing that then don't do it. I've never had an issue with it and I enjoy getting samples in the mail. It only takes a few minutes to fill out most forms and sometimes the forms auto-fill as you go along.

Create an identity to use while sampling offers
Create an alternate identity so that you won't be exposing personal details that are gathered as data and contact information. Go to where you store your passwords, whether its online or in hard copy in a notebook. Make a note of an alternate birthdate, similar to yours, a name similar to yours, a phone number similar to yours. Use this information at free sample sites so that you won't be exposing the real information about yourself that you may not want others to know. They won't check it and you won't be put onto their mailing and contact lists, because you don't exist. These companies don't check the details and so you won't be obligated now or in the future to deal with them.

Protect your personal email inbox.
Get a disposable email address at yahoo or google for free so you can use this email address to correspond with these companies. Its important to use an alternate, disposable email address so that you won't get your regular inbox flooded with emails, specials and offers. It will cut down on the clutter in your life and make dealing with special offers and freebies a lot easier, because it will all be in one inbox. By using a disposable address you are taking another step to protecting your identity and you remain in control while you deal with companies to get your free samples.

Take time to read the information, rules and regulations.
Read the information that is offered carefully and take note of any rules or regulations that they state or claim. Take note that some samples that are offered, are only offered to US residents. You should take the time to read any FAQ's and read the directions on the site first before you fill out the information. Most sites provide a privacy policy that you can investigate if you are unsure whether you are interested in taking them up on their offer.

Different sites, different rules, different methods
Some sites will encourage you to get an account with them before they can send you your sample. They might do this so that they can cut down on their own spam, and prevent automated entries. Sometimes they want to use this as a way to stay in contact with you. This is where your disposable email really comes in handy. You can avoid having this kind of contact sent to your regular inbox if you take the time to sign up with your disposable email address. Some companies want you to 'friend' them at facebook or twitter. This is required for some offers, but it depends on the company and their promotion. For some offers all you have to do is fill out a form.

Your mileage may vary.
Some companies or brands are part of a corporation, and that corporation may offer a single coupon for a variety of products. Proctor and Gamble is a company that does this and when you sign up with them, your choice is limited to what they are willing to offer during a chosen time period, and you can only enter one time and get one sample. Some companies let you choose from a variety of styles or sizes. Other companies offer a generous sample, and others really skimp. It depends on the brand and what is being offered. Some companies offer additional coupons, contests or incentives. Don't be afraid to explore what is being offered.

Check your submission before you submit
You only get one chance to fill out your information for a free sample offer. Double check your information before you hit 'send'. Sometimes you can't go back and correct what you have entered. Most companies won't let you re-enter your information if you visit the link again, and so you may loose out if you haven't filled in your information correctly. Take your time to fill it out and make sure that everything is A-OK before you hit the send button.

Look for their confirmation notice
Most companies let you know when you have filled out your form correctly and they let you know that your sample is being processed. You may get a confirmation email to let you know that your entry has been accepted. Most companies tell you how long it takes for your sample to get to it's destination. Regardless of that it takes time for those samples to get sent out. Coupons and samples travel slowly through the mail, and there are times where I have waited two months or longer to get a sample.

Watch for obvious scams!
Watch out for offers that are obvious scams. Do not join any deal or offer website or program because they are interested in obtaining your financial info and charging you on a monthly basis for offers and coupons that you might never use. Do not sign up for any offer that you have to pay for.

Some companies are legitimate and really do want to offer you a free sample or coupon so they can reach out to new consumers - but on the other hand, some companies are out to harvest your financial and personal information. If something seems too good to be true, too complicated, takes too many steps to fulfill, requires you to fill out a survey or accept offers that you can't opt out of, charges an entrance fee, or monthly subscription fee, then it is not FREE, it is a scam, and you need to hit the little 'x' button in the top right hand corner of your window [exit as quickly as possible]

Most of all, have fun
If you search out offers and coupons on a regular basis, it is possible that you'll be getting mailings almost every day of the week! In our economy in America that can be very useful, especially now that many companies are giving away samples and coupons to generate business.

Enjoy this list, these offers are only given for a limited time!

Check It Out! more Reviews at Squidoo
Just for fun, I've been writing some reviews of cosmetics at Squidoo for the past few months. You are welcome to come and check it out. Squidoo is a place where people can publish pages (that they call a 'lens') - and each lens is a look at a particular subject.

Since I love to review cosmetics, I thought that one of my accounts there would be perfect for doing reviews. So I set it up just for that. The link at the bottom of this post takes you to my Squidoo Lensography page. A Lensography is like a biography of Squidoo lenses, so you can see all of my lenses at once.

Remember that I may post quite a few reviews there at Squidoo every week, just because I really like Squidoo, its a fun place to be at, and its easy to publish lenses there too. My username at Squidoo is "BlueSkiesAbove", and that's the same name that I use at Makeupalley (where I have over 70 reviews as of now!)

I am still writing reviews here at my beauty blog, which I renamed as 'Venus Beauty' - just so you know. This blog will be reserved for more in-depth reviews, makeup hauls, insider insights, and personal experiences, vs. my Squidoo pages which are set up with a particular format and are usually very brief and to the point, and they are low-key and set up for a general audience.

Here at my blog I have a more relaxed atmosphere and I am not afraid to discuss subjects that relate to the occult when they intersect with the realm of beauty. So you'll want to check out my Squidoo Lensography, along with the new reviews here at this blog.

There's no way to subscribe to my Squidoo pages but you can bookmark my Lensography page and check back every so often to see the new reviews posted. I also plan on posting some links to my newest Squidoo pages every so often, as they are published.

Thank you for visiting, and feel free to add your comments there at any lenses that you like. Have a blessed day! ~ Venus

Review: Korres Lip Butter in Quince

Korres Quince Lip Butter

This has got to be one of the best lip butters that I have ever tried, ever! What I like best about this product is that it is all natural and it feels so soothing and quenching. I have used more than half of it in the past few weeks just because it is that good! It also tastes great, with a nice natural flavor - none of that artificiality that some products try to reproduce with their products. Korres is a company worth exploring mainly because their philosophy is to produce all natural products that are good for your skin and good for your life too. Enjoy this for yourself or give to a friend for the holidays.. it will be appreciated.

Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze - This is a True Story
I purchased this item at a local CVS, while I was there for other items. I saw that it was on sale at 50% off so I couldn't resist trying it. I am a fan of the original Colorstay Foundation (amazon), since it performs so well. I have never tried a lipgloss by Revlon so I didn't have anything to compare it too. I am Still on my lipcolor kick that I have been on for the past few months, trying different products out and shopping between brands to see which ones that I like the best.

I chose a light pink shade called Endless Lilac. Each one that was offered was a shimmering color, some coral, some fire red. My mood that day was pink, though..Kim Kardashian pink! I do not idolize her but she does have luscious lips, and its the color that reminded me of her as I browsed through each color to get a feel for the one that I would choose. With her dark eyes and hair, and sultry looks, she has the perfect skin tones and hair to be able to wear a variety of colors, from light pinks as she has been doing recently, to dark reds.
Since I colored my hair a dark black a few months ago, I was able to wear all sorts of lipcolors now. When my hair was a dark green color I had to stay within neutral tones to avoid looking too strange. My light pink color that I chose was the best choice that I could see from the selection that was available. I just wanted to try this item and at 50% off what could I loose, right?

Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze's (amazon) tube is slim and short, with an hourglass shaped clear tube and a black, smooth cap. It would fit perfectly in my purse for on the go application. Thankfully the product that I did choose wasn't tested since it was wrapped entirely in shrink wrap. I like when companies do this because it has been the rare occasion that I have brought home a product only to find that it had been tested at the store.  I really do not like that at all and it makes me want to return the item.

At the checkout counter I found out that the item was not actually 50% off. I do not know why this was. Perhaps since I don't have a CVS card, it wasn't discounted. I do not want a CVS card since I feel that they use tactics like the one that I fell for (50% off sales!) to get folks to spend more than they probably should. Either way, at almost 9$, I trusted Revlon to bring me a good product that I could enjoy. That was, until I actually used it.

Not wanting to wait until I got home to try my new lipcolor, I opened the tube in the car. When I opened it, out came an unpleasant smell, reminiscent of the NYC Lipglosses that are overloaded with cheap, imitation scents like bubble gum and cotton candy. I am 30 now, and I do not want to use a product that would appeal to a teen, so the scent really turned me off. It smelled like coconut and orange, but in a weird, imitation sort of way that made me hesitate to even use it to begin with. The bottle was opened already so I thought that I might as well give it a go.

The formula is thick, and it spread on with more effort than a lipgloss should have..It was not smooth and emollient as a lipgloss should be. The formula felt dry, and it settled into lines within a matter of minutes. The color was not pleasing, either because it did not stay a bright feminine pink color when it was applied to my (already darkly) pigmented lips. It just sat on top, making it look as if my lipcolor was an extra layer applied to my lips. But wait, it gets better!

I did some research on Makeupalley, my favorite cosmetic haunt.. I do not always search out product reviews before I buy items, because sometimes its nice to experience a product on it's own before being tainted by public opinion. The ratings and reviews on makeupalley are usually right, since they provide a wider spectrum of reviews, and a lot of the reviews are detailed. In the ratings for this product, this time, I found something that I wish I had known before I bought this item to begin with.

It got an average rating of 3.4 at makeupalley, a poor score to begin with. The largest complaint was the scent, some of which described it as 'plasitc' and 'fake' - some narrowing it down to being an 'orange cream' scent. If you can get past this scent issue, there is the texture of the product, which is too thick whilst being too dry and tacky to really add any benefit to the lips while it is being worn. I like products that do double duty, such as a lip product that adds color and conditioning, but this item failed when it came to both aspects. Also, Revlon claims that this item will stay on your lips for 8 hours, but that is impossible since there is no lipgloss on this earth that would last that long, on anyone.

A lot of products on the market that are marketed as being mineral are touted as being safe and natural. Revlon's Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze however has many unnatural ingredients, like silicones, acrylates and polymers. The only mineral qualities of this Lipglaze are the mica pigments that are used for the coloring. If I had known this prior to purchase I probably would not have purchased it. But, there was no way to know what the ingredients were unless I had opened the package and peeled off the sticker to read the ingredient list. If I had seen the ingredients, I probably would not have purchased the item to begin with.

I was really let down by this product since I have had a great time so far with certain Revlon products that have consistently delivered great results at a reasonable price. This lipgloss was over priced, cheaply produced and looked really trashy when I wore it. The second time I tried it, I literally shuddered after I put it on because the smell and the texture was a really bad experience.

Luckily I still had my reciept, and while I do not return cosmetics often, I just had to return this one. Back to the CVS it went the next day. The cashier took my return and tossed it into the bin underneath the register. That bin might as well have been a trash can, because if I hadn't taken the time to return my Lipglaze, that's where it would have ended up anyway.

Review: SPF 15 Lip Drink Lip Balm
Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics - Lip Drink, SPF 15 Sunscreen - .15 oz.JANE IREDALE LIP DRINK Spf 15 - Got this item recently from Amazon.com, and what a pleasant surprise it was. My quest to find a great summer lip balm that also had sunscreen is what lead me to find Jane Iredale's Lip Drink. I was really glad to try this, because I live in the south, in Florida (the Sunshine State, as it's called) where the sun is always out and I don't want to get burned because of it. I love keeping my skin out of the sun whenever I can, and I also wanted a nice summer lip balm to enjoy.

This Lip Drink is truly a treat for my lips. It keeps them soft and conditioned, and I have enjoyed using it alone, and with gloss or over matte lipstick. It melts right onto my lips, and it has natural, conditioning ingredients, like green tea (antioxidant) sunflower oil, avocado and jojoba - beeswax and even macadamia oil. So, it leaves my lips feeling very soft and smooth. It also gives a nice, understated natural sheen that does not interfere with other lip products that I may use with it.

The fragrance is pleasant as well. This summer, I have enjoyed grapefruit and citrus scents, and this lip balm has a nice, soothing lemonade scent that does not linger, and it is not overpowering, which is great. Feels very light and refreshing, and its a welcome break from the typical, waxy mint balms on the market.  It is very refreshing to use right after exfoliating, too.

I carry this in my purse for on-the-go applications.. so I can leave the house and not have to worry about putting on sunscreen. Many lip products do not have sunscreen, and the tiny crystal and glitter particles can actually magnify the sun's light so it could eventually lead to sunburn, or over a lifetime, cancer.

A product like this one will help me to protect my skin, now and in the future. It has over 8% Zinc Oxide, but it does not leave a white cast on my skin which is a BONUS - I love it! The spf factor could be higher but with continual application while I am outdoors, it does not really matter to me. Its packaged in a sleek, dark blue tube and it's just the right size to make it well worth the price of purchase, since I know that I will be using this tube for several months.

Review: ELF Luscious Liquid Lipstick
e.l.f. Essentials Luscious Liquid Lipstick

ELF brand (Eyes Lips Face) - Luscious Liquid Lipstick.. In a smooth formula, with sultry pink and nude colors. Its not as thin and sheer as a gloss, and its not as thick or opaque as a lipstick. This formula is the perfect balance of color and sheen combined with a lip smoothing blend of oils and emollients.

I tried this item, as shown in the color above (called Baby Lips). Baby Lips is a dark, dusty mauve and it is neutral in tone. To the right is an older pic of me wearing this Luscious Liquid Lipstick color, Baby Lips. It's the perfect MLBB (my lips but better) shade. I love wearing this product when I am doing a dark smoky eye, because it adds a semi-opaque sheer touch of color to my lips, combined with a sleek and natural shine.

This item is very conditioning and I never feel that my lips are dry when using it. They feel smooth and sleek, and the color and texture of this liquid lipstick imparts a plumping effect because it smooths any lines and adds moisture, conditioning and shine. The fragrance is lightly scented like vanilla. The flavor is also mild, and they taste refreshing, like a smooth vanilla with a touch of mint.

The packaging is great too - its a twist up applicator with a soft velvety tip. I like this because I know that I will get all of the product out and none will be wasted. The packaging is not expensive and this keeps the cost of the item at a reasonable rate.

Baby Lips is a matte color, which means that it does not have any sparkle in this color - which I like. Frosty colors never looked good on me. Some of the colors have microcrystal fine glitter, it is minuscule in size and it adds a major shine factor. The color is somewhat sheer, because it is liquid, but there is just enough color payoff to add a very nice tone to your lips. This formula is smooth, and it is not gritty or grainy or flaky. It truly is luscious!

Most of the colors in this ELF product line are neutral to warm, with many pinks and nudes. I wish this same great formula came in a larger selection, especially if they could add deeper reds and darker shades and double the selection in size. A clear formula would be great too.

I found this brand by searching on the net, and I got it at the ELF Shop. This item was only 1$ but don't let the low price fool you - its a quality product at a great price. I plan on adding more colors to my collection. This is the lipstick that I keep in my purse for use on the go.

Visit e.l.f. today! They always have discounts and shipping offers and many of their items are 5$ or less.
